Dari sekian banyaknya game adaptasi film, nampaknya kita setuju kalau rata-rata game yang ada sangat jauh dari ekspektasi. Hal ini menyebabkan para gamer jarang memberi tanggapan ketika ada game adaptasi yang rilis. Sejauh ini mungkin hanya Toy Story 3 yang mendapat rating bagus dimana-mana karena konsep gamenya yang keluar dari pakem film. Dan sekarang Disney nampaknya masih mengimplementasikan formula yang sama bagusnya dengan Toy Story 3 pada game adaptasi terbarunya: Cars 2.

 Cars 2 mengingatkan kita dengan game racing dengan mobil-mobil yang berkelakuan �ajaib� seperti Nascar Rumble, Crash Team Racing, Mario Kart series dan game sejenis lainnya. Yap, disini kita tak hanya sekedar memencet tombol gas dan rem saja, melainkan harus cerdik memanfaatkan power up yang bertebaran serta manuver-manuver untuk memenangkan race. Sangat berbeda dengan game pertamanya yang berkonsep open world.

Pada game ini gamer berperan sebagai salah satu agen Command Headquarter for Recon Operations & Motorized Espionage (C.H.R.O.M.E). Developer dengan cerdas memutuskan untuk mengambil storyline setelah event pada film Cars 2 ketimbang terjebak dengan plot film yang akan membatasi variasi gameplay. Jangan kuatir, memainkan game ini tak akan membocorkan spoiler apapun pada film bagi yang belum menontonnya.

 Hampir seluruh karakter favorit pecinta film Cars bisa dipilih sebagai agen yang bisa gamer mainkan. Sebut saja Lighting McQueen, Mater, Luigi, Sarge, Fransesco Bernoulli, dan masih banyak lagi. Sejalan dengan progress game, karakter bonus juga nantinya akan dimunculkan hingga total kurang lebih 35 karakter yang bisa dimainkan. Tiap karakter mempunyai perbedaan speed, power, dan juga diaktegorikan berdasarkan weight class yang berbeda. Misi awal membawa gamer pada simulasi yang menjelaskan kontrol dasar pada game secara keseluruhan. Nantinya, simulasi ini akan gamer temui lagi ketika ada tutorial mengenai move atau manuver baru.

Gameplay yang dihadirkan cukup simple. Gamer hanya perlu menempati posisi depan untuk mendapatkan spy point. Spy point ini gunanya untuk membuka tantangan baru. Di dalam race, gamer akan menemui berbagai manuver yang bisa dilakukan seperti boost, jump, bash, flip, atau reverse. Boost memerlukan filling bar yang ada di bagian bawah karakter terisi dengan jumlah tertentu. Filling bar bisa diisi dengan mendapatkan ikon baterai yang tersebar di track atau melakukan manuver-manuver yang sudah disebutkan.

 Di sepanjang track akan ada banyak power up yang bisa digunakan untuk mengerjai lawan, seperti missile, machine gun, oil slicks, dan masih banyak lagi. Karena lawan juga bisa mengeluarkan trik-trik ini, gamer juga bisa mengeluarkan shield yang mengamankan kita dari serangan musuh setelah filling bar terisi. Power up bukan satu-satunya jalan untuk memenangkan race, karena gamer juga harus jeli melihat jalur shortcut untuk memangkas waktu tempuh tiap lap.

Star Wars: Battlefront II is a first/third-person shooter video game developed by Pandemic Studios, and published by LucasArts. The game is the sequel to the successful Star Wars: Battlefront and features new vehicles, characters, game mechanics, maps, and missions. The game was released in PAL regions on October 31, 2005 on the PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, Windows, and Xboxplatforms, and in North America on November 1 of the same year. It was later updated to bebackwards-compatible for the Xbox 360. It was also released on the PlayStation Store on October 20, 2009 for download on the PSP.

Unlike its predecessor, Battlefront II features a more narrative-based campaign, retelling portions of the Star Wars story from the point of view of a veteran Imperial stormtrooper, reminiscing about his tour of duty in service of both the Galactic Republic and as part of the Galactic Empire. Gameplay additions over Battlefront include the use of Jedi, additional game modes, and objective-based space battles.

Battlefront II was fairly well received, with the PlayStation 2 and Xbox versions scoring in the mid 80s at aggregators GameRankings and Metacritic. The PC version scored slightly lower at both sites, scoring a 76 at GameRankings and 78 at Metacritic. The PSP version was the worst received, scoring 71 at GameRankings and 69 at Metacritic. Reviewers generally praised the narrative-based story, however some felt that the upgrades from the original were not enough to merit the price.

Gameplay

Battlefront II is fundamentally similar to its predecessor, albeit with the addition of new gameplay mechanics. The general objective in most missions is to eliminate the enemy faction. Like Star Wars Battlefront, the game is split into two eras, the Clone Wars and the Galactic Civil War. Players have the ability to choose between six classes during gameplay. Four class types are common to all factions; infantry, heavy weapon, sniper and engineer.  In addition to the four standard classes, each faction has two unique classes which unlock by scoring a predetermined number of points. For the Rebellion faction, the Bothan Spy and the Wookie; for the Empire, The Officer and The Dark Trooper; for the Republic; the Commander and the Jet Trooper and for the CIS, the Magnaguard and the Droideka. Battlefront II also features heroes; a special class that allows the player to control iconic characters from the Star Wars universe. Heroes serve as a bonus to players, and unlock by meeting certain criteria, such as earning a certain number of points. Differences between Battlefront II and its predecessor include the ability to sprint and the ability to roll.
